This blog post introduces how to effectively express diligence and a meticulous work attitude—key qualities for educational administration roles—in your self-introduction using concrete examples.
Growth Process
Influenced by my father, who worked as a bank teller, I naturally developed habits from a young age of meticulously attending to even small tasks and managing myself without distraction. My parents emphasized “read widely” more often than “study hard,” creating a stable and quiet learning environment that encouraged self-directed study rather than forcing academics.
Thanks to this home environment, I was able to consistently immerse myself in my studies without burning out—through university, ○ years of graduate studies in Beijing, and beyond. This sustained passion and immersion in learning became a significant asset, profoundly influencing the direction of my subsequent life.
After graduating from graduate school, I spent ○ years preparing for the teacher certification exam, which provided an opportunity to study education more deeply. This process allowed me to reflect on the essence of education and systematically understand the professionalism, role, and importance of educational administration.
These formative experiences became the foundation for who I am today, providing a solid base that allows me to move forward unwaveringly in any environment.
During my school years, overcoming my fear of water
An experience of nearly drowning during elementary school instilled a deep-seated fear of water in me. That memory lingered within me for a long time, and during summer vacations with friends, I always insisted on going only to shallow areas. Outwardly, I pretended it was nothing, but deep inside, fear always lingered.
Then one day, a thought suddenly struck me: “If I can’t even conquer myself, what can I possibly achieve?” My fear of water transcended mere terror; it felt like a battle against myself. I resolved that I had to overcome it.
To act on that resolve, I joined a sailing club and started yachting. At first, even dipping my feet in the water made me tense, but as I sailed against the waves, I gradually grew closer to the water, and my fear began to fade. Training continued even on rainy days or when the wind blew fiercely. On days with particularly strong winds, the yacht would capsize, and I’d end up in the Han River. Yet, those very experiences became major turning points for me.
Through this process, I gained the conviction that I could overcome not just my fear of water, but myself. Achieving good results in several university-sponsored competitions boosted my confidence, and water ceased to be an object of fear; it became an object of challenge.
This experience instilled in me the mindset that ‘I can do it’ and the courage to take on any situation. Those times of facing my fears and overcoming myself became precious turning points in my life. They remain a valuable asset, enabling me to move forward with an attitude of trusting myself and embracing challenges, no matter what difficulties lie ahead.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
I have no shyness or hesitation when it comes to learning and teaching. Approaching things with an open mind, without setting limits for myself, is one of the greatest strengths of my personality. There is a Chinese proverb that says, “When three people walk together, one of them must be my teacher.” True to this saying, I maintain an attitude of being willing to learn from anyone if I find myself lacking in a particular area. Even if someone is younger, if they know more about a subject, I ask questions and learn without hesitation. This attitude naturally bridges gaps with others, allowing us to complement each other’s weaknesses and build positive relationships.
Furthermore, when someone older than me needs help, I tend to offer assistance first. Helping others feels natural to me, and doing so builds mutual trust.
However, there are drawbacks. Because my enthusiasm for work often takes precedence, I tend to find it difficult to refuse when others ask for help. As a result, I frequently end up with an excessive workload. To overcome this weakness, I always strive to clearly prioritize tasks, select what needs to be done first, and execute them systematically. Additionally, I compensate by rationally adjusting my workload based on practical feasibility rather than emotion, enabling me to work more efficiently.
A humble attitude toward learning and an active approach to teaching are core values in my life. I wish to continue building relationships where I learn and grow alongside others. I believe this mindset will compensate for my shortcomings and serve as the driving force to make my strengths shine even brighter.
Career Experience (or experience demonstrating work capabilities)
I volunteered as an English interpreter during the 2002 World Cup and the Busan Asian Games, supporting the work of Indian broadcast staff. At the time, there was a tennis match between India and Thailand, and I was responsible for facilitating communication between Korean broadcast officials and the Indian broadcast staff. Specifically, my duties involved conveying important instructions regarding equipment setup for the live broadcast to the Indian team and accurately relaying their requests to our side.
However, it wasn’t easy at first. The strong Indian accent and unfamiliar broadcasting terminology made it difficult to grasp the intent of what was being said, and the pressure to avoid missing important details was significant. To address this, I always carried a pen and notebook, immediately jotting down unfamiliar words or expressions, and repeatedly practiced their pronunciation to become more familiar with them. This process not only helped improve my language skills but also greatly aided in building trust with the other party.
Ultimately, I formed close bonds with the Indian staff and gained the confidence to overcome my fear of making mistakes. It was a valuable experience that allowed me to recognize my own strengths: adapting quickly to unfamiliar environments and performing tasks calmly even in unexpected situations. This hands-on experience in developing responsiveness and communication skills will serve as a foundation for handling any future work environment with flexibility.
Motivation and Aspirations
First, I will systematically create manuals for administrative tasks to help colleagues easily perform their duties according to the situation. Even when I am unavailable or urgent work is needed, anyone should be able to produce the same results by following the manuals. This will tangibly enhance the overall operational efficiency of the organization.
Second, I will focus on providing swift and accurate information through close collaboration with other departments to ensure research proceeds smoothly. I plan to prioritize tasks by listing them and visually diagramming them into flowcharts. Tasks will be designed to allow flexible adjustments at each stage during execution, and by systematically performing work in sequence, I will minimize unnecessary time waste. This approach will significantly contribute to handling administrative tasks more accurately and efficiently.
Third, drawing on my experience supporting academic seminars while working as an assistant researcher at the Buddhist Culture Research Institute of ○○ University, I will actively participate in facilitating policy seminars and workshops moving forward. Participants in those seminars included researchers and professors from ○○ University, as well as monks from various temples of the Jogye Order, representing diverse fields of expertise. While coordinating schedules across these diverse groups presented challenges, I successfully concluded the events by efficiently dividing tasks and collaborating through continuous meetings with administrative staff from other departments. Building on this experience, I aim to contribute to planning and executing more polished events through smooth communication and cooperation with multiple stakeholders.
I will continue to learn diligently, strive for improvement, and become a member who provides tangible support to the organization.
