This blog post explores how a practical, field-tested growth background—forged through real-world experience and pragmatic thinking—can serve as a distinctive strength in a sales resume.
Growth Process
As a child, I was incredibly proud of my parents, who ran a supermarket in a commercial district. Every morning, seeing my father step out front to greet customers and explain the day’s new arrivals always left a deep impression on me. Unlike my younger sibling who often said it was embarrassing, I always felt respect and pride, knowing my parents’ hard work and sweat were the foundation supporting our family. After school, carrying goods or helping with the register was my job as a child. Through this, I truly grasped the immense effort my parents put into running the store. Therefore, I believed that as someone benefiting from that labor, I should never feel ashamed or look down on it. If I harbored such feelings, it would feel like turning my back on the lives my parents had always lived, always doing their best for us.
Of course, my younger brother would often confront me, asking if it wasn’t embarrassing for our friends and their parents to see our home while coming and going from the supermarket. But in my heart, I always felt proud. My parents were raising us brothers through the honest sweat of their labor, and I believed that very existence was the healthiest and most noble way of life. Every time my brother voiced such worries, I helped our parents even more actively. I saw greeting friends who stopped by the supermarket first, serving customers with a bright face, and helping my parents’ work as the best way I could contribute. Forcing my brother to change his mind wouldn’t work, and I believed actions spoke louder than words. Moreover, I hoped my sincere attitude and quiet efforts would gradually shift his perspective.
Even today, I hold these values, learned through my parents’ lives, deep in my heart. The attitude of selflessly devoting oneself to family and taking pride in one’s work, no matter the circumstances. That is the most steadfast root guiding the direction of my life, and it is the conviction I must uphold no matter what path I walk in the future.
Looking Back on My School Days
During my school days, I always gave my utmost effort, driven by the conviction that I must never squander the precious educational opportunity bought with the hard-earned money my parents had sweated for. Having grown up witnessing my parents’ exhaustion up close—raising us siblings, sending us to cram school, and covering all the extra costs—I always felt acutely aware of how that money came into our home. Perhaps because of this, whenever I felt reluctant to go to cram school or grew tired of studying, I would sometimes go out to the shop without saying a word, watch my parents work, and refocus my mind.
My father, always kind and attentive to customers; my mother, handling transactions with practiced dexterity; and the constant flow of goods filling and emptying the small shop—all embodied the very essence of my parents’ lives and efforts in raising my brother and me. Watching them, I felt inexplicably sorry. My parents always gave their utmost for us, yet I sometimes felt I wasn’t putting in equal effort, leaving a deep sense of guilt in my heart.
Changing my mindset like this, when I returned to my room, I could regain my energy and focus on my studies. I sincerely wished to repay the time and money my parents had invested in me as soon as possible, so they could fully enjoy their own lives. To do that, I first needed to succeed and achieve meaningful results, and the starting point was securing ‘good grades’ above all else. I was certain that better grades would open doors to different universities, and different universities would ultimately broaden the range of opportunities I’d encounter in society.
And above all, compared to seeing my parents toil daily with physical labor, I believed sitting at a desk to study was a far better condition. Holding that mindset allowed me to always remain humble, diligently doing my best in my place without complaint.
Personality Introduction
I take pride and satisfaction in my life and have always strived to approach everything with a confident attitude. Belittling my own abilities or innate qualities would also mean belittling my parents, who provided me with that environment and foundation. Therefore, I have constantly strived to affirm myself and elevate my own worth. I believed that achieving success in various areas of life would be a way to repay my parents’ dedication and hard work, and that belief has been a crucial driving force in my life.
Seeing my parents silently toil their entire lives to care for my siblings and me, I came to see growing up quickly and achieving meaningful results as the most practical way to show filial piety. So I tried to approach everything responsibly, never taking anything lightly. I also always tried to maintain a healthy mental state, avoiding undermining my own value or damaging my self-esteem through excessive modesty. I believed that excessive self-reproach over what I lacked could actually rob me of the very energy needed to overcome it.
I live my life always keeping the saying ‘A healthy mind resides in a healthy body’ close to my heart. When facing any problem or difficult situation, I believe the strength to overcome it comes from a balance of physical and mental fortitude. That’s why I always strive to manage myself well. I believe that managing and strengthening myself is the path to realizing my potential and, ultimately, making the lives of my parents, who raised me, shine even brighter.
Life Philosophy
I wish to live repaying the kindness of the countless people who made me who I am today. Not only my parents, but also the many mentors who imparted knowledge and life wisdom, the elders who generously shared their seasoned advice, the precious friends who taught me the true meaning of friendship, and every single connection I’ve encountered throughout my life—all these relationships have become the foundation enabling me to live my present life. I did not grow up alone. Like a rough stone being shaped into a smooth pebble, someone has shaped and molded my life, and it is through that help that I have become who I am today.
Therefore, no matter what achievements I may accomplish in the future, I always want to keep in mind that none of those results were achieved solely by my own strength. It was possible only because of the kindness and affection of the many people who cherished and guided me. I believe I must find ways to gradually repay the grace I received from them. This is my fundamental life stance and the conviction that keeps me centered as I live each day. Ultimately, I believe that when this warm cycle of caring for and embracing one another spreads throughout the world, we can build a richer and warmer society.
Reasons for Applying and Aspirations After Joining
Growing up alongside my parents, who ran a supermarket and always worked hard, I experienced firsthand the value and nobility of labor. Watching them take pride in their work and give their best every day, I naturally learned how noble and beautiful a life of fulfilling one’s responsibilities can be. This background is also why I deeply resonate with your company’s philosophy. Your emphasis on “each employee working proactively on the front lines, driven by affection and confidence in our products” aligns perfectly with the ideals I’ve cherished since childhood. Therefore, my desire to join and contribute to your company feels like a natural outcome.
If given the opportunity to work with your company, I will approach sales with conviction, drawing on my deep trust and satisfaction with your products—products my family has cherished since my childhood. I firmly believe that pride in the product is the foundation of persuasive sales, and I will confidently convey that value to customers. Furthermore, I will diligently perform my duties without hesitation, regardless of any physical hardship or demanding environment. Whenever the work feels arduous, I will recall my parents’ unwavering effort and dedication for my brother and me. This will remind me of the duties and responsibilities I must shoulder as a member of society, and I will press on silently. I sincerely hope this attitude of mine will contribute to growing and developing alongside your company.
