This blog post introduces how to craft a resume that goes beyond a simple list of experiences, effectively conveying your genuine passion and expertise for architectural estimating work.
Personal Background
From my childhood, I remember my father as someone who was always building or fixing things. He never treated any household item carelessly, and with his exceptional craftsmanship, he particularly loved creating things. From furniture and shelves to even small radios, nothing escaped his hands—from woodworking to electrical repairs. My father personally maintained nearly everything in our home, and thanks to that, I naturally developed an interest in making and fixing things while helping him alongside.
These days, I’m taking a furniture-making class. During the process, memories from my childhood often surface. Now that I’ve made something with my own hands and placed it in our home, I think I can finally understand a little why my father poured so much care and time into his work. It wasn’t just about making or fixing an object; I now feel that the care, meaning, and time invested in it were a special comfort to him.
Life is full of things that don’t go as planned. But when I experience the process of something taking shape or being repaired in my hands exactly as I intended, I feel the wounds I’ve received in social life gradually healing. Just like my father did, I too find solace in the small changes that begin at my fingertips.
Now, beyond being a simple hobby, the act of making is becoming an important part of my life. These projects, which remind me of my father, accumulate within me, fostering a quiet yet solid growth. The image of my father, which I carelessly passed by in my youth, is now resonating deeply within my present life.
A Cultural Heritage Exploration Diary from School Days
During my school days, after reading Professor Yoo Hong-jun’s 『My Cultural Heritage Exploration Diary』, I developed a deep longing for the numerous places featured in the book. I harbored a desire to visit those places myself someday if the opportunity arose, and it settled into a small dream I truly wanted to realize, not just a fleeting thought.
As my sophomore summer vacation approached, while planning a vacation trip with like-minded friends from the same department, I proposed a cultural journey inspired by this book. Fortunately, my friends readily agreed, and so our own cultural heritage exploration began. From then on, every vacation, we continued our special journey, visiting historic sites scattered across the country.
The experience of encountering each ancient building and historic site scattered throughout the land, and the history and stories contained within them, went far beyond a simple trip. Rather, it was a precious time that resonated more deeply and taught me more than any class during my university years. Those explorations were a kind of living lesson for me, a cultural experience imbued with emotion.
Exploring ancient architecture held particular significance for me. Standing before those magnificent, intricate structures built solely by human hands and ingenuity—without today’s advanced technology or sophisticated machinery—filled me not only with pride as a Korean but also with profound awe for human creativity.
Exploring the cultural heritage of that era held meaning beyond mere travel. A small longing that began in books eventually led to learning through walking and experiencing firsthand, and those times remain deeply etched in my life. Though the journey has ended, its lingering echoes still live and breathe within my heart. I believe I will follow that inspiration and stand on the road once more.
Hobbies and Special Skills
I love creating things with my hands. The joy of seeing the finished product with my own eyes is my greatest pleasure. So, on weekends, I often visit a workshop to spend time making furniture. This work is like a daily vitamin for me because the process itself gifts me three distinct moments of happiness.
The first happiness comes in the ‘moment of conceptualizing the design’. I flip through interior design magazines or foreign books, select a piece I want to make, and ponder how to add my own style to it. This process—not just copying, but adding my own touch to complete a design—is a time filled with imagination, creativity, and excitement.
The second happiness is felt in ‘selecting the materials’. After deciding what to make, I begin selecting wood that suits the piece. While I still rely heavily on my workshop teacher’s help at this stage, careful consideration is crucial because the grain, texture, and pattern of the wood drastically alter the finished piece’s atmosphere. Though I follow expert advice, I make the final choice myself. This very act of being the ‘decision-maker’ is another source of joy for me.
The third, longest, and deepest happiness comes from the ‘process of making’. Once I begin actual production based on the design, patience and dedication become essential. With each stroke of the plane, each pass of the sandpaper, each screw driven in, the rough wood gradually transforms into a finished piece. This process feels like a form of spiritual cultivation. Of course, unexpected difficulties and trial-and-error moments arise along the way, but all these moments accumulate until my own creation is finally born. That’s why I call this process ‘a time where joy and hardship coexist’.
And finally, the sense of accomplishment I feel when I gift the finished furniture to someone or place it in a much-needed spot in my own space is a special feeling that cannot be replaced by anything else. I find great fulfillment in the thought that something I created has become part of someone’s life, simultaneously fulfilling both practicality and emotion.
This entire journey—from conceptualizing the design, selecting materials, crafting, to final placement—offers distinct forms of joy at every stage. That’s why I can’t help but be drawn to this hobby. To some, it might just be ordinary furniture, but to me, it’s a ‘work of art’ and a ‘memory’ filled entirely with my dedication and time.
These days, the hobby I pour the most passion into is precisely this ‘making things’. I want to keep dedicating this time steadily and complete my own little happiness, one piece at a time.
Strengths and Weaknesses of My Personality
As a child, I loved being alone at home, making things and immersing myself in my work. Naturally, I spent more time quietly by myself than playing outside with friends, and I was a bit different from the more outgoing kids. I didn’t have a huge number of friends or a particularly lively personality, but instead, I found great joy and spent my time focused and steadily creating things.
A major change came during high school through club activities. Working alongside diverse friends who shared the common interest of ‘making things,’ I got to know and spend time with people who had similar hobbies but completely different personalities. Through this process, I gradually learned how to interact with others and converse comfortably even with strangers. My awkwardness and fear in social situations began to diminish. Looking back now, the influence those friends from that time had on me was immense and profound. Even today, they remain my most cherished companions in life, steadfast pillars I reach out to first and gather around when good things happen or difficult moments arise.
I’m not the type to take the lead and set the tone among people; instead, I’m better suited to the role of a coordinator who quietly steps back, observes the whole, and fills in where needed. I consider this the practice of ‘consideration’. While most people tend to focus more on what they need, what they want to say, or what they desire, I strive to first consider what the other person in the relationship wants to hear or needs me to do. I believe this attitude greatly helps balance relationships and maintain warmer, healthier connections.
Looking back, I think the reason I, with my quiet personality, could naturally blend in among my strong-willed friends in high school was precisely because of this ‘mindfulness towards others’ and my considerate nature, quietly striving to be supportive. That experience not only positively shaped my character but also became an important foundation that makes up who I am today.
When considering my personality strengths and weaknesses, my somewhat introverted side might appear as a weakness. However, I also see it as a strength that allows me to form deep connections with people in my own way. While not outwardly visible, the attitude of quietly sharing feelings and practicing consideration can be a great source of strength for someone.
Career History and Work Experience
I worked as a Quotation Manager at ○○ Company for ○ years, performing architectural quantity surveying and quotation tasks. During this time, I participated in various types of domestic construction projects, including residential facilities, public facilities, special facilities, military facilities, and power generation facilities. These included projects such as YRP and FED construction.

Moving forward, I plan to continuously strive to provide more accurate and reliable estimation services based on my accumulated experience and know-how, while also sharing practical knowledge and advice that will benefit junior colleagues.
Motivation and Aspirations
I believe that spaces built safely and with care can offer people not only convenience but also small joys in life. That’s why I often revisit buildings I’ve worked on after time has passed. Observing the people living or working within them, I reflect on the impact my work has truly made.
Architecture is a true comprehensive art form, created through the collaboration of numerous stages and specialized professionals. While my role may be just a small part at the beginning, I believe it is the most crucial work that forms the foundation of architecture. Only with a solid foundation can a high-quality finished product be created. Therefore, I always approach my work with a sense of responsibility and have cultivated the habit of meticulously checking even the smallest details.
Recently, I had the opportunity to personally tour the ○○○ and ○○○ buildings completed by ○○ Company. As I slowly examined everything from the building exteriors to the interior spaces, I couldn’t help but marvel, ‘This is truly well-crafted architecture,’ and ‘There is undoubtedly a profound philosophy embedded within.’ It felt like more than just a functional space; the design and construction clearly considered the emotions and experiences of those who would inhabit it. Seeing such a company capable of creating such high-quality architecture sparked a strong desire within me to work alongside them. A sense of challenge also naturally followed, a desire to apply my skills and experience within that environment.
Based on the experience and skills I have built up so far, and my genuine passion and love for architecture, I sincerely hope that I can lend a hand to help ○○ Company continue on its path for the next 100 years. I have always worked with the mindset of ‘creating spaces,’ not merely constructing buildings, and I will continue to do so. I believe this conviction of mine can serve as a small but solid foundation for shaping ○○ Company’s future and vision together.
If given the opportunity, I will grow into a valuable asset to the organization, driven by responsibility and passion. Furthermore, I aspire to become a trusted member who can grow alongside my colleagues.
